Microgaming, the leading software provider to online casinos, appears to be on a mission to quickly enhance the branded slots content of its portfolio. Quick on the heels of announcing landmark titles like Terminator 2 and Jurassic Park, Microgaming has announced a licensing agreement to develop online slots based on the epic HBO television series, Game of Thrones.

The television series is based on the best-selling book series “A Song of Ice and Fire” by George R.R. Martin. Game of Thrones has created a saga of kings and queens, knights and renegades, liars and noblemen playing power games to capture the Iron Throne of Westeros. The series first ran on HBO in 2011 and will start its fourth season in April 2014. This high profile brand is perfectly suited for a Microgaming slot game. Game of Thrones has been nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Drama Series in all its three seasons and also a Golden Globe Award nomination for Best Television Series (Drama) in 2012. Games of Throne has won both critical and mass popularity. It has aired in more than 200 markets, thus demonstrating its international appeal. Microgaming powered online casinos draw customers from all countries and they will not only be familiar with the television series but will be able to identify with its content. The press release issued by the software provider states, “The show’s intricate plot and fantastical themes will take centre stage in Microgaming’s adaptation, set to be released in 2014.”

Roger Raatgever, CEO of Microgaming, also issued his statement in the press release. He said that Microgaming was incredibly excited to have signed a licensing agreement for Game of Thrones, which he referred to as “a highly relevant and extremely popular show”. Microgaming will combine all of the features of the fantasy epic to create “a masterpiece of a slot”. Josh Goodstadt, Director of HBO Global Licensing, also expressed his views. He said that the partnership with Microgaming will extend the show’s already global presence into a completely new realm. HBO selected Microgaming because the latter is a “giant in its field”. Goodstadt was confident that Microgaming would do full justice to Game of Thrones in its slot game and provide the show’s active fan base another new way to engage with the show.
