Man Misses the Chance to Claim His $50 Million Prize

Imagine having a possibility to become $50 million dollars richer but missing the chance? Unfortunately, that is the case for a Cambridge, Ontario resident who had won the Lotto Max $50 million draw but did not claim it. Lotto Max is one of the gaming entertainments offered by Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG). OLG is a corporation that is created by the Government of Ontario with the aim to provide gaming entertainment that maximizes economic benefits for the people of Ontario. OLG is responsible for 24 gaming sites and sales of lottery products around the Ontario region.
OLG is ultimately responsible for the distribution of the prizes won under Lotto Max jackpot. According to the rules of the Lotto Max game, when hitting the jackpot, a player is able to claim the prize with a time limitation of up to a full year after the winning ticket has been drawn. If the annual deadline happens to be a weekend, OLG will do an extension of the deadline up to midnight of the following business day.
Clearly, November 30 2013 fell on a weekend of the calendar year and it was also the deadline for the $50 million dollar jackpot prize to be claimed. Because it was a weekend, OLG had done an extension to allow the prize to be claimed until December 2nd 2013. However, despite the extension of the deadline, according to OLG, the ticketholder have yet to claim the prize up till now. Although the regulators of the Ontario gambling know the location at which the winning ticket was being sold, they refuse to publicly release the details and provide a chance for the winning ticketholder to come forward so as to claim the prize.
OLG had also launched an official investigation that had lasted over several months to see who the winner is and now that the deadline has passed, OLG must also decide what to do with the unclaimed jackpot. According to the Canadian lottery records, if the Lotto Max jackpot remains unclaimed, it will be the largest amount of unclaimed lottery that remains unclaimed in the Canadian gambling history. Statically, only one percent of winners forego their winning according to the OLG and in these cases, the prizes are of smaller amounts. Records have also shown that there is a ticket worth $300000 that had been drawn which remains unclaimed. Hopefully both of these winners will come up to claim the prizes or they’ll lose an opportunity of a lifetime!
