Online Double Attack Blackjack Gives A Second Chance
Playtech has a few unique online blackjack variants in its portfolio. You can play them at online casinos like Omni Casino and Mansion Casino. Double Attack Blackjack is one of them. In normal online blackjack variants you place your bet before seeing any of the cards dealt to the hands. In Double Attack Blackjack you have the option of placing an additional bet after seeing the first card of the dealer’s hand. This, in a sense, allows you to attack the dealer a second time.
There are some material differences between the regular blackjack games and Double Attack Blackjack. Double Attack Blackjack is played with eight Spanish decks. A Spanish deck has only 48 cards, since all four 10s are removed. You place the ante wager as usual. The initial gameplay is slightly different. The player’s face-up cards are not dealt and only the dealer’s face-up card is dealt. Based on this card you have to decide whether or not to stake the Double Attack bet. The maximum amount of this bet is capped at the amount of the ante bet. Then the player’s two face-up cards are dealt and the dealer’s second card is dealt face down. The gameplay then carries on in the usual manner with the dealer checking for blackjack, if required.
The Double Attack Blackjack bet results in changes in rules and payouts as well. If you split hands then you have to place the additional wager for both the ante and the Double Attack bets. If you double down then you have the option of doubling only the ante bet or both bets. The Insurance bet has an enhanced payout of 5 to 2, instead of the regular payout of 2 to 1. Even at this payout it is not worth placing the Insurance bet. The Surrender option need not be exercised up front but can be resorted to even after any number of hits. The Double Attack bet gives the player considerable advantage so it is compensated for by reducing the blackjack payout to 1 to 1 from 3 to 2.
The main game has to be played using optimum strategy. The strategy for the Double Attack bet is simple. You place this bet to the maximum for all dealer cards, except ace, nine and ten. Double Attack Blackjack also offers an optional Bust It side bet. The bet must be placed with the ante bet. It wins if the dealer busts with exactly three cards and pays out according to a payout table. The bet has a very high house edge and should be avoided.
