Spanish Blackjack is an online blackjack variant from Microgaming. It can be played at online casinos like All Slots, Royal Vegas and Spin Palace. For the larger part, Spanish Blackjack is played like the standard American land casino blackjack variants where the dealer checks for blackjack up front. But it has two unique features.

Spanish Blackjack is played with eight decks, but each deck has only 48 cards instead of the usual 52 cards. All the four tens have been removed from each deck, so neither the player nor the dealer can be dealt a ten. Expert blackjack players know that the odds increase in favour of the house when the tens are removed. Spanish Blackjack compensates for this through its second unique feature.

There are bonus payouts for special combinations of hands that yield a hand value of 21. No additional side bets are needed. The payouts will be made on the main game bet. The net result is an average return to the player of 99.5%, which is on par for online blackjack variants. The combinations are listed below.

• Three sevens of the same suit with a seven face up for the dealer pays 50:1 • Any five card 21 pays 3:2 • Six, seven and eight of a mixed suit pays 3:2 • Three sevens of a mixed suit pays 3:2 • Any seven card or more 21 pays 3:1 • Six, seven and eight of spades pays 3:1 • Three sevens of spades pays 3:1 • Any six card 21 pays 2:1 • Six, seven and eight of the same suit pays 2:1 • Three sevens of the same suit pays 2:1

Some other normal blackjack rules have been tweaked. They do not matter much as far as the average return is concerned, but the players should be aware of the changes. Cards having the same value can also be split, such as a queen and a jack. This is just a cosmetic change because no experienced blackjack player will split two ten value cards, even of the same rank. You can split a maximum of three times and can double down after a split. The usual insurance bet is offered. Even in normal blackjack games the insurance bet is not viable. With the tens removed from the decks the bet is even more unviable.
