Apart from blackjack and baccarat, the other online casino card table games are based on poker hand rankings. A notable exception is 3 Card Rummy, which is loosely based on Gin Rummy. 3 Card Rummy is played with a single standard deck of 52 cards. The hands are valued in a unique manner. Pairs, three of a kind, and runs of at least 2 suited cards count as zero points. The leftover cards, if any, are valued as follows. Aces have 1 point; cards from twos to nines have their face values and all other cards are valued 10 points. The total hand value is the sum of the values of the above components. The objective of 3 Card Rummy is to have a lower hand value than the dealer.

You start by placing the ante bet. At this time you can also place the optional bonus bet. You will be dealt three cards face up and the dealer will be dealt three cards face down. Based on you hand you can fold or raise. If you fold the ante wager is lost. If you raise, an additional bet equal to the ante bet has to be placed. The dealer's hand is then turned over. The dealer must have a hand value of 20 or less in order to qualify. If the dealer does not qualify, the ante bet will pay even money and raise bet will push. If the dealer qualifies then the hands are compared. The hand with the lower value will win. If you win then the ante bet pays even money and the raise bet pays according to the payout table. If the dealer wins then you lose both bets. A tie will result in a push for both bets. The bonus bet pays up front according to a separate payout table irrespective of the outcome of the main game.

In 3 Card Rummy the first decision you make is whether or not to place the bonus bet. Based on the Microgaming payout table, the bonus bet has a house edge of 3.5%. This is lower than the house edge in online slot games and on par with the house edge in the main game. Hence you should go for the bonus bet. The second decision is whether to fold or raise. You will get highest average returns in the long run if you raise with a total of 20 or less.
